Two key take aways from Dana Murray’s talk are the importance of slaying dragons and pivotal movements of inspiration leading to motivation. For teachers today “If you ain’t motivating you ain’t educating”. The motivation is critical because while many want to be the hero of their own story, few are prepared to slay the dragon (put in the effort). To slay the dragon requires us to understand the ‘why’ of the What and How, which can ignite our imagination. It put us on a different trajectory and a path we chose. If that ‘ignition’ does not happen, we risk being stuck in the rut of empty calories of knowledge and reliant on others (our phones, tablets, etc.) to tell us what we should do, who we should be. Be ready for when opportunity comes knocking at your door, then you have slayed the dragon and are ready to be the hero of your own story.
